What’s happening this month at the Cello Museum? Find out here.
It’s October, and it’s time to celebrate here at the Cello Museum.
Cello-brate Halloween with the Cello Museum
October is here, and we’re getting ready for Halloween. We’ve got ideas to get you into a spooky frame of mind – and free coloring and activity pages for cello fans of all ages.
New York Women Composers Spotlight: Margarita Zelenaia
Each month, we collaborate with the New York Women Composers (NYWC) to showcase one of their members who has composed music for the cello. In the second week of October 2023, we’ll highlight Margarita Zelenaia and her fabulous Byzantine Chants, Sacred Concerto of eight movements for unaccompanied cello. This is a great piece for cellists and listeners alike.

A New Bach Album by Valérie Aimard
On 6 October, cellist Valérie Aimard is releasing her latest album, featuring recordings of the six Bach Suites. Later this month, read our new interview with her to learn about the details behind this recording, a culmination of her Only Cello project. Plus, there will be a chance to win a copy of the album and a Cello Museum T-shirt!
Postcards from Erica
At the end of October, Erica Lessie will send us the eighth installment in her series featuring unaccompanied cello works by Hispanic and Latino/Latina composers. While you wait, you can explore her postcards highlighting works by Black composers, her series spotlighting women composers, or revisit all of her postcards.
Two Giveaways and a Photo Contest
It’s our birthday, and we want to share the joy by sharing presents! Enter for a chance to win a prize from our limited-edition product line. For three weeks, starting on 25 September, we’ve been doing a random drawing. As this article goes to press, we still have one prize drawing left—on 9 October 2023. The entry form is at the end of our celebratory article here.
Where does your Cello Museum gear take you? Send us a photo of you and your favorite Cello Museum purchase (it could even be from our special 3rd birthday line) to be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card to the Cello Museum store! (Full contest rules are available in the September Curator’s Corner.)
Dr. Leonovich is giving away one PDF copy of Servais’s Fantaisie sur La Muette to the winner of our random prize drawing on Monday, 16 October 2023. He chose this piece for its accessibility, even to musicians in the early stages of their cello journeys. Please fill in the entry form at the end of the interview. One entry per person, please.
Later this month, we will offer a chance to win a copy of Valérie Aimard’s new Bach album.
