Program Notes
“The Duo for cello and piano was composed in 2003; it was made possible, in part, with support from the Seattle Arts Commission. In two contrasting movements, Lamento and Primitivo, it is an abstract yet evocative work. The mournful Lamento is a song of loss and longing; Primitivo, is both vibrant and forceful, folk- and dance-like, yet insistent, alluding to Shostakovich’s use of dance music to subversively decry political atrocity.“ – Laura Kaminsky

A Collaboration with the New York Women Composers (NYWC)
The NYWC series at the Cello Museum was created to showcase its members who have composed various pieces for cello, informing cellists seeking new music to add to their repertoire, and helping listeners find new favorites. Many thanks to the NYWC for this wonderful collaboration.
