Cello Museum Simple Gifts Video Project

Still accepting video submissions

Simple Gifts Project

Cellists of all levels (from beginners through professionals) are invited to participate by sending a video performance of one of the parts of our arrangement of the traditional Shaker tune, “Simple Gifts.” We will combine these videos to make a virtual, international cello orchestra performance of “Simple Gifts” for the final video.

There is no fee to participate, but we suggest that everyone who takes part donates directly to Rise Against Hunger. Please gather your friends and family together in a team to support your participation in the project through donations to Rise Against Hunger. Who will raise the most to turn cello music into meals?

CelloWercken Zutphen

Online Cello Events – February 2024

Are you a composer and would you like to join our course from 3 – 6 April ’24? From anywhere in the world you can join us online – for free! Of course we also welcome composers and cellists in Zutphen (NL). We are happy to provide a host family for pleasant stay and all your meals. In that case we offer the classes for €150,- (composers) or €500,- (cellists).
We still have some spots left, please contact us if you are interested! On our website and the link in the bio you will find all further details.
This course you will be accompanied by Xiaoyong Chen (compositon), Joachim Eijlander (cello), Alfian Emir Adytia (cello, composition and sound artist) and Jeroen den Herder (cello). who will all be present in Zutphen.
This Research Retreat we focus on the exhibition of Ruthi Helbitz Cohen at Dat Bolwerck, home of our Academy. The key to her work is the female body. The retreat includes 2 performances for an audience.
In this course composers and cellists work together. Together with the artist, the composers explore the backgrounds of the subject. Subsequently, they incorporate their inspiration into contemporary compositions, which they share with the participating cellists. Throughout the retreat, the work and performance are refined, and finally, all elements come together in a public performance…
This retreat is open to Master, Post Master and young professionals. Are you a high-level bachelor student? Sometimes we make exceptions, so please contact us if you are interested.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if the contribution poses a financial challenge for you. In some cases, we can offer scholarships.

Trad Cello – Tunes and Techniques with Natalie Haas

Online Cello Events – 16 December

Let Natalie Haas teach you some tricks of the trade as well as some great melodies!

Natalie is one of the most sought-after cellists playing traditional music today. She and Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser have toured as a duo for twenty years, wowing audiences at festivals and concerts worldwide with their unique sound.

In this series she will teach some bowing techniques when accompanying melody players before moving on to chords and arranging, finishing with some melodies that sit well on the cello.

Although this series is aimed at the cellist, many of the skills and techniques will sit as comfortably on any string instrument.
