Postcards from Erica January 2023

Trying to find unaccompanied cello music by Black composers? Look no further.

2023-01 Postcards from Erica

This month concludes my first series about unaccompanied works by Black composers. I created my online “just-the-facts-ma’am”-style digital postcards to introduce listeners to new-to-you cello music and to help cellists, orchestra directors, cello teachers, and students seeking new repertoire, contest pieces, and supplemental literature.

This month, instead of new postcards, I put together a round-up of this entire series as a quick reference guide. Below, I’ve listed the composers in this series, as well as ordering all of the works by the level of difficulty.

For your offline convenience, I’ve prepared downloadable files in letter as well as A4 size. Please feel free to share the information with cellists and cello-lovers in your social and professional circles.

I hope you find this guide helpful all year round but especially wanted you to have it as you prepare to celebrate Black History Month (in the USA) in February.
